Chicagoans will recognize this as the facade of the Aqua building. This award winning building was designed by Jeanne Gang, and it was (still is?) “the largest project ever awarded to an American firm headed by a woman” (Wikipedia).
I had been wanting to photograph Aqua for quite some time now. The balconies extend in an irregular, undulating manner, mimicking the topographical quality of flowing water. After all, the Chicago river and Lake Michigan are a stone’s throw away. I remember reading somewhere that no two floors have the exact same balconies, just as no two waves are alike. Fortunately, this means that no two photographs will be exactly alike either. Stay tuned for a couple more photographs showing my take on this building.
